Beekeeping the Natural Way using Oils and Herbs

'Bees and Mice'
Autumn and Winter time
The time of year may well have arrived for when mice will
be looking for Winter homes. The bees will have spent all year gathering stores ready for the cold weather.
That lovely honey and pollen will have been stored away,
sealed in Home Sweet Homehoneycomb and topped up with a wax coating.
Once the frosty weather has arrived, hungry mice
will be looking for a cosy home to lodge inside
over the Winter time. What better place than a rent free, dry and cosy beehive with a 'cupboard' full with food!

Early Autumn is the time
for all beekeepers to act swiftly, BEFORE that mouse gets inside and destroys next years colony. Over my 10 years of keeping bees, I have lost several hives, due to my own negligence in not fitting mouse guards on the entrances. Don't let it happen to you as well.
Aluminium mouse guards can be obtained from your local beekeeping agent, or alternatively, why not make your own. The picture shown above demonstrates how easy it can be to construct your very own plastic guards.
